 JAZZ BAND

The Ewing High School Blues Devils jazz band rehearses on Monday evenings. It is modeled after the dance bands of the swing era of the 1930's and 40's, as well as the jazz orchestras of the 60's through the present. The group covers a wide variety of jazz, ethnic and popular styles of music. The Blues Devils have participated in adjudicated jazz band festivals and perform at community events after school hours. Any student attending EHS is eligible, but music reading skills and an advanced ability to play an instrument are prerequisites. Students play a combination of arranged music and improvised solos. It is a talented and enthusiastic group and many students have contributed original arrangements and compositions to the band's repertoire. Quite a few members of the Blues Devils have gone on to pursue studies and careers in music.
